CU Cup FADE INTO Crowd
Liverpool, in the dark shirts, gained the one point necessary to clinch the English Football League First division Championship on Saturday. They drew with Leicester City in a game which produced no score. However, Liverpool players tried hard and this save by City's goalkeeper shilton was one of many which were necessary. However, Liverpool efforts were largely through individual players rather than teamwork. The Leicester goalie had to block shots in quick succession from Keegan, Lloyd and this attempt by Callaghan. Throughout the game, Leicester were solid in defence, and in attack, came up with good co-operative football.
Despite a game which did not show Liverpool at its best, it was enough to gain the League trophy. The lap of victory around the pitch was the eighth time Liverpool's fans have seen their team bring home the First Division championship.
The much-coveted cup was all but won the week before with a two-nil home win over Leeds United. All that was necessary in Saturday's match was the draw which brought one point.
