Background: To coincide with a crucial round of talks on the future of Untied States military bases in Greece, various pro-Communist 'peace' organisations have mobilized for series of demonstrations. They travelled to a U.S. airbase at Hellinikon, near Athens to display their opposition to the resumption of the talks on the future role of the U.S. military in Greece. Among the groups involved in the protest on January 23, were the International Committee for Peace, youth's Peace Movement and the Greek Peace Committee. Many protestors were addressed by speakers who described the U.S. military establishments as "bases of death" and called for their withdrawal from Greek soil.
