Background: The United Nations Secretary General, Doctor Kurt Waldheim has held talks in Khartoum with Ministers of the Sudanese Government. His two day visit started on Sunday (9 June).

On Monday (10 June) he had talks with President Jaafar el Nimeiry and the Foreign Minister, Doctor Mansour Khaled. It was the first visit to Sudan by a United Nations Secretary General.

During his talks, Dr. Waldheim touched on the role of the Third World. It is understood he spoke at length with both the President and the Foreign Minister about the summit meeting of the Organisation of African Unity which opens in Somalia later this week.

Doctor Waldheim will be present at the opening.
