Background: China remains at the top of the world table tennis ladder by scooping the major titles at the world championships which ended on May 10. In the women's singles final, South Korea's Yang Young-Ja (No.609) became only the second non-Chinese to appear in a final. Her chinese opponent world number two Cao Yanhua (No.622) proved too strong and beat Yang 21-9, 10-21, 21-9, 21-13. In the men's final, Guo Yeuhua (No.128) (China) retained his world title when he beat team-mate and world number two Cai Zhenhua (No.129). Guo a 27-year-old physical education teacher won 21-15, 19-21, 21-18 - 3 games to 1, the same margin when the two men met in the finals of the world championships two years ago.
