    Champion ski jumpers competed in Innsbruck on Sunday (4 January) in the third round of the German-Austrian ski jumping tournament. The competition took place on the Olympic ski jump site in the Austrian city which is hosting the Winter Olympic Games in one moth's time.

    Heavy winds led to the postponement of the tournament which started an hour late.

    After leading in points for the first two jumps, Austrian competitor Innauer lost his lead to drop to fourth place. East Germany went into the lead with Danneberg scoring 698.2 points at the end of the third jump. Austria took second and third place honours with Schnabl scoring 687.4 points and Bachler 679.5 points.

    The fourth and final jump of the tournament was scheduled to take place on 6 January at Bischofschoefe near the Austrian city of Salzburg.

    SYNOPSIS: At the Olympic ski jump site in Innsbruck, top ski jumpers from around Europe competed in the third round of the German-Austrian ski jumping tournament on Sunday. Soviet competitor Karapusow was among those taking part.

    Polish entrant Bobak was one of several East European competitors who shone in the competition. The tournament, which was delayed an hour because of heavy winds, is a forerunner to the Winter Olympic Games which begin in the Austrian ski resort town in one month's time.

    Austrian jumper Innauer in the competition. He led the field in the first two jumps but later dropped back to fourth place.

    Another Austrian competitor, Bachler. He ended third after this jump. The positions in this tournament will help Olympic selectors for the approaching Games.

    A third Austrian entrant, Schnabl. He ended in second place in the competition. The fourth and final jump of the tournament was scheduled to take place near Saltzburg on Monday.

    The overall leader at the end of three jumps was East German competitor Danneberg. He emerged almost eleven points in the lead.
