Background: President Hugo Banzer of Bolivia arrived at Buenos Aires Airport on Monday (12 November) at the start of a four day official visit to Argentina. He and his wife Yolanda, ware greeted at the airport by President Juan Peron of Argentina and his wife, Isabel.
During the visit, the two President were expected to have talks on strengthening relations between their two countries. Political observers considered that one of the main subjects to be discussed would be economic links between Argentina and Bolivia.
It is important for Argentina that its trade and economic ties with its South American neighbours should be strengthened, because countries such as Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay have recently found more benefit in economic co-operation with Brazil.
This is the second visit President Banzer has made to Argentina. The firs was in November 1971, when he had talks with General August Lanussa.
