    More than 1,500 housewives and community workers from about 75 countries began a 10-day conference in Nairobi on Wednesday (12 October) to discuss problems facing rural women. They are meeting in a general session of the Associated Country Women of the World, the ACWW, held every three years in a different world capital.

    SYNOPSIS: This is the first time the ACWW has met in Africa and Kenya put on a spectacular display of tribal dancing to welcome the women. The meeting, which is being held under the slogan, "building for the future", is discussing issues facing homemakers all over the world. The opening sessions was addressed by Kenya's Vice- President Daniel arap Moi.
