    The President of the Central African Republic, General Jean-Bedal Bokassa, said yesterday (Tuesday) that his country would shortly establish diplomatic relations with Nigeria at consular level.

    President Bokassa made the announcement at Lagos Airport during a brief stopover on his way to Expo '70 in Japan. He was leading a 20-man delegation from the Central African Republic to take part in his country's national day at Expo.

    The Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu gowon, drove to the airport to greet the President. He thanked General Bokassa for the Central African Republic's support of the Federal cause during the Nigerian civil war.

    Among other personalities who met President Bokassa at the airport was M. Sourou Migan Apithy, a member of the three-man presidential commission from Dahomey which had paid a surprise visit to Nigeria, and Nigeria's Commissioner for Finance, Chief Awolowo.
