We believe that in our struggle for justice we carry the weight of struggle of the whole oppressed humanity and the liberation and well-being of the world is contingent upon the victory of this struggle. Our people in the next few days will be commemorating occasions of high political and religious significance. Out of respect for these days and in preparation for the meeting of the Security Council we have requested the postponement to the next week of this meeting. Background: The Iranian Special Envoy to the United Nations requested a postponement of the Security Council debate on the crisis in Iranian-United States' relations on Monday (26 November). Speaking at a news conference, Mr. Saeed Sanjabi said Iran welcomed the decision to discuss the issue. United Nations' Secretary General Kurt Waldheim had earlier invoked his prerogative under the U.N. charter and proposed an emergency debate by the fifteen-nation Council. He described the situation as a threat to international peace and security. Mr. Sanjabi explained that the Iranian Foreign Minister Abolhassan Bani-Sadr would be unable to attend the debate unless it was delayed for a week.
