  • Description

Sudan Foreign Minister Mansour Khalid, in the United Nations on Thursday (7 October), expressed his country's concern that in many regions of the world -- particularly Sudan's part -- peace was still remote, freedom denied and progress unattainable.

Mr Khalid deplored the policies of South Africa and Portugal. He questioned how any government could even contemplate conducting a dialogue with the government of South Africa, while it still pursued its policies of apartheid.

On the Middle East, Mr Khalid said that the main obstacle to peace was the continued "aggressive occupation" by Israel of Arab territories. He said the occupation was condemned by the world, and he called for the restoration of the "inalienable rights of the Palestinian people".
