  • Description

Bitter cold with heavy snowfall in the northern areas of Greece is reported today, while temperatures steadily decreased and road communication has been interrupted in many parts. In Northern Macedonia, snow was over one-and-half meter high this morning, while temperature in Salonika went down to 26 F. Villages in Epirus land Mount Pilion have been isolated completely and villagers have requested the speedy dispatch of food for their cattle, otherwise they will face starvation. Attica district and most of Athens northern suburbs are covered with snow, while many coastal liners schedules were cancelled due to rough seas in Saronic and Corinthian Gulfs, as well as the Aegean and the Ionian. Athens itself froze under sleet for two days now.
