    THE CONNECTICUT COASTLINE WAS ONE OF THE AREAS THREATENED BY ESTHER, THE CAPRICIOUS HURRICANE WHICH HAS HAD THE EASTERN SEABOARD OF THE UNITED STATES WORRIED FOR THE PAST WEEK. ON SEPT 21ST, THE FRINGE OF THE HURRICANE WAS AT GALE FORCE WINDS ACROSS LONG ISLAND, EASTERN CONNECTICUT, RHODE ISLAND AND MASSACHUSETTS.

    POWER LINES WERE DOWN, LEAVING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF HOMES WITHOUT LIGHT POWER TO COOK. HIGH SEAS BATTERED THE COASTLINE, LEAVING LOW-LYING AREAS FLOODED AND PEOPLE EVACUATED FROM THE COAST AREAS TO SEEK SHELTER INLAND.

    PRESIDENT KENNEDY ORDERED THAT HIS TWO CHILDREN SHOULD BE EVACUATED FROM THE KENNEDY SUMMER NONE AT HYANNIS PORT, CAPE COD. THEY WERE REMOVED TO OTIS AIR FORCE BASE, 35 MILES TO THE WEST OF HYANNIS.
