Background: Poland's National Football side made a disastrous start to their World Cup preparation in Itlay on Sunday (24 February). In the main stadium in Florence, Poland went down to a one-nil defeat to the skill of a local club -- Fiorentina.
Poland seemed a mere shadow of the team that knocked England out of the World Cup finals last October. They showed little of their old initiative until the 54th minute, when a Polish defender was forced to handle the ball in his own penalty area. The penalty put Fiorentina one-nil in the lead. From there on the Poles kept up a non-stop attack on the Italian goalmouth. It needed several miraculous saves from the ???ioren ??? ??? to save their lead until the full-time whistle.
