    Princess Christina of Sweden stopped over in the Liberian capital, Monrovia, on Wednesday (13 February) on her way to the drought-stricken areas of Mali, Upper Volta and the Niger Republic.

    Princess Christina was greeted by Liberia's President Tolbert, Finance Minister Stephen Tolbert, and the Swedish Ambassador to Liberia, Mr. Bangte Friedman.

    President Tolbert later presented his Presidential papers to the Princess,who is the sister of the Swedish Monarch, Carl Gustav.

    Princess Christina -- a member of the Swedish National Red Cross Society -- also visited the headquarters of the Liberian Red Cross Society, and presented the 'Swedish Cross' silver medal to the President, Mrs. Jeanette King.

    In the drought-stricken parts of West Africa, Princess Christina is expected to assist the Red Cross in providing relief from the famine.
