  • Description

The Australian Tourist Team played their now traditional opening game against the Duchess of Norfolk's eleven under sunny skies at Arundel Castle in Sussex on Wednesday. In a limited over match, the Tourists had scored 186 for five at the end of 45 overs with Greg Chappell claiming 44 and young David Hookes striking 16 not out. In reply, the Duchess of Norfolk Eleven - which was led by England skipper Tony Grieg - were all out for 166 in 41 overs to give victory to the tourists.

The home side included former England wicket keeper, John Murray of Middlesex, now an England selector.

In addition to their Captain's aggressive innings, the Australians also saw some powerful strokes from opener Serjeant who joined Chappell in a big hitting session against the medium paced bowling.

The Australians face their first real test when they meet Surrey at the Oval in London in a three day match commencing on Saturday.
