  • Description

The revolutionary Iraqi Government of General Abdel Kerim el Kassem, that overthrew the Nuri Administration and dethroned King Feisal, was officially recognised by the United Arab Republic on Monday, July 14.

Damascus took time off from business to celebrate the creation of the Republic of Iraq on the same day, the 14th. Thousands of people strolled through the streets of the city, shouting slogans and generally creating a disturbance. In other parts of Damascus young people danced and sang in the thoroughfares.

When a large body of the demonstrators arrived at the house of the former President of Syria, Shukri Kuwatli, they called on him to make a speech. He did and praised the coup d'etat of the Iraqi Army officers who led the revolt.

This film was delayed as a result of the crisis in the Middle East and the subsequent disruption of communications.
