    THE LATEST NEW ZEALAND FAST ANTI-SUBMARINE FRIGATE, 'TARANAKI', ARRIVED IN SINGAPORE ON JANUARY 9 AS PART OF THE SOUTH-EAST ASIA TREATY ORGANISATION STRATEGIC RESERVE.

    THE 2,600-TON FRIGATE, COMMANDERED BY CAPTAIN L.G. CARR, WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE FAR-EAST FLEET FOR A PERIOD OF SIX MONTHS.

    THE 370-FOOT LONG 'TARANAKI', WITH A COMPLIMENT OF 250 MEN, JOINED THE FAR-EAST FLEET LAST MONTH. SHE IS HERE FOR NORMAL DUTIES.

    ON HER ARRIVAL AT THE ROYAL NAVAL BASE, LIEUTENANT COLONEL R. H. F. HOLLOWAY AND COMMANDER W. B. ELLIOTT, NEW ZEALAND LAISION OFFICERS OF THE ARMY AND NAVY RESPECTIVELY, WENT ON BOARD TO MEET THE CAPTAIN AND OTHER OFFICIALS.
