    THE BANFF NATIONAL PARK, VENUE OF THE MEETING, INCLUDES SOME OF THE FINEST SCENERY IN THE CANADIAN ROCKIES. IT ATTRACTS MORE THAN 750,000 TOURISTS EACH YEAR.

    COMPETITORS FOR THE SKI MEETING CAME FROM AUSTRIA, FRANCE, ITALY, NORWAY, POLAND, SWEDEN, SWITZERLAND, THE UNITED STATES AND WEST GERMANY.

    CANADIAN OFFICIALS SAW THE MEETING AS A PRIME OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE THEIR OWN SKIING STARS EXPERIENCE AGAINST REALLY TOUGH COMPETITION.

    THE SKIERS FROM THE TEN COUNTRIES TOOK PART IN MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SLALOM AND GIANT SLALOM EVENTS CLOSELY WATCHED BY OFFICIALS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SKI FEDERATION, THE RULING BODY OF WORLD SKIING.

    THE COMPETITION WAS THE FIRST STAGED IN CANADA UNDER THE FEDERATION'S SANCTION. NEXT WEEKEND, A SIMILAR EVENT WILL BE HELD ON MONT STE. ANNE, 30 MILES FROM QUEBEC CITY IN THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC.
