Background: THE HEAD OF THE HOME SCIENCE DEPARTMENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA, MISS VIRGINIA CUTLER URGED WORKING GHANAIAN WOMEN" TO AVOID THE INTRIGUES OF UNSCRUPULOUS BOSSES" WHEN SHE ADDRESSED THE SEVENTH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (Y.W.C.A.) OF GHANA IN ACCRA ON FRIDAY. HER TOPIC WAS "THE ROLE OF VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS IN PROMOTING THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN".

MISS CUTLER NOTED THAT THE PROBLEMS AND IDEALS OF VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS, ESPECIALLY THOSE OF WOMEN ARE THE SAME ALL OVER THE WORLD. SHE SAID WOMEN MUST ALWAYS HAVE THE FEELING THAT THEY BELONG TO THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH THEY LIVE, AND TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS ITS PROGRESS.

IN HER ANNUAL REPORT, THE NATIONAL GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE GHANA Y.W.C.A., MRS. J.L. BARTLETT-VANDERPUIJE, SAID THAT IN THE PAST YEAR, THE ASSOCIATION MADE A CONSIDERABLE PROGRESS, ESPECIALLY IN THE REGIONS. SHE SAID LEADERSHIP TRAINING HAS BEEN THE CONSTANT TASK OF THE ASSOCIATION, AND PARTICIPATION HAS BEEN VERY ENCOURAGING.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION, MRS. D.B. GEORGE, PRESIDED OVER THE MEETING. SHE URGED GHANAIAN WOMEN TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THE CENTRE FOR CIVIC EDUCATION, AND TO BE CONSCIOUS OF THEIR RIGHTS.
