  • Description

Commonwealth leaders from Asia and the Pacific who have been meeting in Australia have agreed on closer consultation regarding trade, energy policies and coping with drug trafficking in the region. They also agreed on combating the growing menace of terrorism. The decisions were made during a relaxed day at a luxurious manor house at Bowral, 131 kilometres south of Sydney. The talks were moved from Sydney following Monday's (13 February) bomb blast outside the Hilton Hotel, the original venue for the conference. The blast killed two people and injured nine others, including four policemen -- none of them from the conference. There was heavy security both along the route to Bowral from Sydney and around the manor house. Hundreds of troops and police took part in the operation.
