Background: In Bangkok on Friday (17 November), military cadets in the Thai Armed Forces trooped colours to take their oath of allegiance to the Thai forces and to the country.

The parade had been started earlier by a flypast of Army aircraft.

Thailand, leader, Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn, reviewed the new recruits before speaking to the gathered guests and officials. In his speech, Karshal kittikachorn emphasised the growing threat to the country from communist infiltration in the north. He called on the new recruits to remain loyal to the Thai armed forces and stressed the need for discipline and unity.

Friday was the first anniversary rule, although Marshal Kittikachorn made no direct mention of the country's regime during his address.
