  • Description

East Pakistani employees of the Pakistan High Commission walked out of the Commission building in New Delhi on Tuesday (2 November) with their wives and children and announced their defection to the rebel Bangla Desh movement.

Scuffles were reported to have taken place between the Bengalis and West Pakistani staff at the Commission, and several of the men were treated by their womenfolk as they squatted with their belongings outside the Commission compound.

They were met by Mr. H. R. Choudhury, head of the unofficial Bangla Desh mission and former Counsellor at the High Commission. He expressed concern over Mr. Hussain Ali, the sole remaining East Pakistani employee in the Commission. There were reports that Mr. Ali had been "beaten up", but a High Commission spokesman said Mr. Ali, his wife and two daughters were all right and did not want to leave the Commission.

This film, which has natural sound, was shot by Visnews staff cameraman Prem Prakash.
