  • Description

One of the world's few remaining wooden sailing ships, the three-master Erewan, has been smashed to pieces on rocks in the Strait of Canso, Nova Scotia. The ship normally plied the Caribbean on charter out of Martinique, but she accepted an invitation to join the race of tall ships to New York during the American bicentennial celebrations. Then it went on to the Great Lakes for a series of courtesy calls, but she was caught in a ferocious storm. Phil Forgeron reports on the end of the Erewan.
