    A JAPANESE TRAINING FLEET CONSISTING OF FOUR DESTROYERS WITH A COMPLEMENT OF 1,000 MEN -- INCLUDING 160 CADETS -- SET SAIL ON MONDAY (JUNE 30) FROM TOKYO'S HARUMI PIER FOR A 128-DAY TRAINING CRUISE OF SOUTH EAST ASIA AND OCEANIA. THE FLEET IS COMMANDED BY VICE-ADMIRAL TETSURO MOTOMURA.

    PRIOR TO THE FLEET'S DEPARTURE, A FAREWELL CEREMONY AND PARADE WAS HELD ON DOCKSIDE. AMONG THE PERSONALITIES PRESENT TO WISH THEM WELL, WERE ADMIRAL TAKAICHI ITAYA, WHO TOOK THE SALUTE; AND THE DIRECTOR OF THE DEFENCE MINISTRY, MR. KIICHI ARITA, WHO INSPECTED THE GUARD OF HONOUR.

    THE DESTROYERS -- ALL MADE IN JAPAN -- ARE THE "TERUZUKI", "TAKANAMI", "MAKINAMI" AND "OHONAMI". ALTHOUGH JAPANESE TRAINING FLEETS HAVE VISITED AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND TWICE SINCE 1962 -- IT IS THE FIRST TIME THAT THEY WILL CALL IN AT INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, PAKISTAN, INDIA AND SINGAPORE.
