Background: U.S. troops recently unearthed films of Viet Cong Commander and Chief, General Nguyen Chi Thanh and his deputy Brigadier General Tran Do meeting with leading cadre at a secret camp in South Vietnam. The film was found in Tay Ninh province -- in the heart of "War Zone C", where Operation Junction City is taking place.
It is not known when the films were shot.
According to United States Intelligence officers the Viet Cong Commander and Chief is a four-star general in the North Vietnamese army, a member of the Politbureau and Secretariat of the Lao Dong Party (formerly the Indochinese Communist Party). They also claim that General Chi Thanh is a member of the North Vietnamese Government's National Defense Council.
Brigadier General Tran Do, the U.S. Intelligence officers say, is a Major General in the North Vietnamese Army. He is also an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Lao Dong Party.
Military documents, the U.S. claims, were also found with the film. They are still being processed.
To U.S. Intelligence leaders feel the films, still photographs and documents that were found is evidence that the North Vietnamese political leaders are in control of the "Liberation Army of South Vietnam" (Viet Cong).
