Background: A former Wimbledon champion, Neale Fraser of Australia, was eliminated from the men's singles title yesterday (26 June) in a five set struggle on centre court. Fraser, now 38, found age and experience just not enough to match the youth of Italy's number one, Adriano Panatta, aged 21. Panatta won 6-4, 8-9, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. But the centre court crowd gave Fraser, the champion of 1960, applause for his effort.
