A Japanese trade mission recently completed a four-day visit to Senegal. While there members of the mission met the country's President, Leopold Sedar Senghor, and a number of high-ranking government officials.
SYNOPSIS: Members of the mission spent most of their time in the Senegalese capital, Dakar. There were shown around the port before meeting with port officials. The leader of the mission was Mr. Namakura, director of Japan's Department of African Affairs. He said the purpose of the visit was to promote better relations between the two countries.
The possibility of furthering trade links was one of their priorities, and the main topic of discussion when they met with Senegalese Minister of Industrial Development, Monsieur Louis Alexandrenne.
The International Trade Centre in the capital was the scene for further talks between the Japanese and Senegalese officials. At a press conference Mr. Namakura praised Senegal's economic progress, and the leadership of President Senghor. He said he hoped Japan and Senegal could further their co-operation in trade and industry.
