    AT THE THEATRE ROYAL, DRURY LANE, LONDON, JAN 21, TWO THOUSAND MEMBERS OF EQUITY, THE ACTOR'S TRADE UNION, VOTED TO CONTINUE THEIR 12-WEEK OLD STRIKE AGAINST THE INDEPENDENT TELEVISION COMPANIES. ONLY 29 MEMBERS OPPOSED THE MOTION.

    THE MEETING, BELIEVED TO BE THE BIGGEST IN EQUITY'S HISTORY, WAS PRESIDED OVER BY MR. FELIX AYLMER, THE FAMOUS ACTOR. OTHER FAMOUS STAGE, SCREEN AND TELEVISION ACTORS ATTENDING INCLUDED TONY BRITTON, PATRICK BARR, MICHAEL DENISON, WILFRED HYDE-WHITE, MARGARET LOCKWOOD, DIANE CILENTO AND RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH.

    EQUITY ARE CLAIMING A NEW MINIMUM RATE OF PAY FOR AN ACTOR APPEARING IN A REGIONAL PROGRAMME, AND FOUR TIMES THIS AMOUNT FOR ONE IN A PROGRAMME LINKED INTO THE NATION-WIDE NETWORK. THE INDEPENDENT TELEVISION COMPANIES' ASSOCIATION INSIST ON THE RIGHT TO NEGOTIATE TERMS FOR A PERFORMANCE TO BE NETWORKED.
