    A group of Vietnamese "boat people"???groups of refugees who have fled Vietnam in makeshift vessels -- have arrived in France. They coast of Malaysia since early November. France and Canada have so far guaranteed new homes for more than eight hundred of the Vietnamese refugees.

    SYNOPSIS: This hostel in the suburbs of Paris has become home for more than two hundred and thirty refugees from the Hai Hong.

    the group includes more than sixty children. They were greeted by Red Cross officials on Monday (29 November) who gave them medical examinations and warm clothes. One of the group, fifty two year oild Huynh Tho, said he fled with his family because life in Vietnam under the Communist government was too harsh. He said the average fee paid to a fisherman to provide a boat passage for escape was 1,500 (U.S.) dollars per family. Malaysia has refused to accept the Vietnamese on the grounds that they are not genuine refugees, but bought their passages through a syndicate which, they claim, had the backing of the Vietnamese authorities.

    The 'boat people' now residing in paris are supported by a group of French citizens. Journalists, scholars, artists and theologians and even actress Brigitte Bardot, are urging their fellows to send money to resettle the Vietnamese.

    As the Hai Hong passengers being the difficult task of settling into a completely new environment, many of their fellows are still waiting on board the freighter. West German officials began interviewing refugees on Thursday (30 November), and other countries have promised to accept refugees with sponsoring relatives.
