    AN ANNUAL FAIR HIGHLIGHTING ALL ASPECTS OF MALI'S AGRICULTURE AND INDUSTRY OPENED ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC IN BAMAKO ON SUNDAY (17 MARCH).

    THERE TO PRESIDE AT THE OPENING CEREMONY WAS MALI PRESIDENT MODIBO KEITA. HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNMENT AND THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS.

    WITH HIS OFFICIAL DUTIES COMPLETED THE PRESIDENT AND HIS PARTY TOURED THE FAIR, A LARGE SECTION OF WHICH IS DEVOTED TO SHOWING OFF THE BEST OF THE COUNTRY'S LIVESTOCK.

    MALI IS FAST BECOMING ONE OF THE MAIN PRODUCERS OF FOOD CROPS AND LIVESTOCK IN WEST AFRICA.

    THE FAIR FOLLOWS RECENT TRADE AGREEMENTS SIGNED WITH BOTH FRANCE AND WEST GERMANY.

    THE FRENCH AGREEMENT, AMOUNTING TO 598,000,000 MALI FRANCS (ABOUT GBP500,000 STERLING) WILL BE USED FOR THE PURCHASE OF AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT MEDICAL AND SUPPLIES AND VEHICLES.

    NO AMOUNT WAS REVEALED IN THE WEST GERMAN CO-OPERATION AGREEMENTS WHICH WILL TOUCH ALL BRANCHES OF THE ECONOMY.
