  • Description

The snow-covered fields could not dampen the spirit of Spring which the flower show at Dovenkarspel evoked. But it was not these stark and barren fields which nurtured the colourful spring flowers on the Westfrisian Flora.
There were an estimated 40,000 tulips on view....all had been reared in hothouses.
This show is the biggest of forced bulbs on the Continent, taking a floor space of 12,000 square metres with exhibits worth in all GBP12,000.
The visiting experts and flower culturists considered the exhibits to be of a very high standard. And the natural beauty of the blooms was further enhanced by skilled and attractive display.
No wonder Queen Juliana, who came to see the show today, found the display entrancing and conveyed her admiration to the officials of the organisation responsible for putting on the show.
The Queen, looking rested and with a wonderful tan, was just back from a wintersports holiday in Austria.
