Background: Zambia's Opposition leader, Mr Simon Kapwepwe, is one of 123 opposition party members who were placed under arrest on Friday (4 Feb).
The arrests were made on an order from President Kaunda - a boyhood playmate of Mr. Kapwepwe.
In a breakfast-time speech to the nation, President Kaunda described the opposition United Progressive Party as being "bent on violence and destruction".
