    Four destroyers, formerly of the Royal Navy, were officially 'taken over' by the Turkish Navy during a ceremony at Istanbul, Turkey, July 27 attended by Turkish Prime Minister Adnan Menderea.

    The destroyers were 'handed over' in a ceremony at Portsmouth Dockyard, U.K. June 29.

    New names have been given to the ships. HMS 'Milne' has been re-named 'Alpaslan': 'HMS 'Meteor' now 'Pyalepasa': HMS 'Marne' now 'Marshal'. Three of the ships have been named after Turkish maritime heroes, the fourth, 'Marshal Fevzi Cakmak', is named after the first Marshal of the Turkish Army.
