    LORD MOUNTBATTEN WAS ON A TWO-DAY VISIT TO AMERICA FOR INFORMAL TALKS WITH PENTAGON CHIEFS.BEFORE HE LEFT HE STRESSED THAT THE VISIT WAS PURELY ROUTINE.

    BEFORE HIS VISIT TO THE WHITE HOUSE, A BRITISH EMBASSY SPOKESMAN SAID THAT ALTHOUGH LORD MOUNTBATTEN WAS NOT PRIMARILY CONCERNED ON HIS PRESENT VISIT TO WASHINGTON WITH PLANS FOR BRITAIN TO GET THE POLARIS MISSILE, BRITAIN'S PARTICIPATION IN A MULTILATERAL NUCLEAR FORCE WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY BE A SUBJECT OF DISCUSSION BETWEEN HIM AND PRESIDENT KENNEDY.
