  • Description

The Palestinian Liberation Organisation (P.L.O.) has camp on the outskirts of Damascus where it's training youths to attack Israel.

But they also receive instruction in painting, morals and other subjects as well as the history and cause of war, the history of Palestine and its culture.

They are trained on offensive and defencive weapons including mortars and anti-tank guns. And P.L.O. demands a high standard of physical fitness from the pupils, who concentrate on receiving close-quarter-combat-training.

Those receiving instruction are aged between eight and sixteen and start a typical training day just after dawn, ending their instruction in the early evening with a three hour break in between.

They are taken for three mile jogs in groups of one hundred. According to reports from Damascus their presence could affect the outcome of the present peace moves between Israel and Egypt.

Syria has already said that it will not accept the idea of a settlement outside the Geneva Peace Conference, And reports from Damascus say Syria is opposed to any separate settlement of the Egyptian Front or -- the Golan Heights.

SYNOPSIS: Damascus and a suburb on the outskirts of the city where the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (P.L.O.) has a camp for training youths to attack Israel. Apart from their usual schooling they receive instruction in the use of offensive and defencive weapons.

The ages of these youngsters range from eight to sixteen and a typical training day will start at just after dawn, and end in the early evening -- with a three hour break in between. Reports from Damascus say their presence could affect the outcome of the present Israel-Egypt peace moves.

Syria has offered to join forces militarily and politically with the P.L.O., and according to observers in Cairo this move will force the United States Secretary of State Doctor Henry Kissinger to widen the scope of his latest peace mission.

Syria has already said it will not accept the idea of a negotiated settlement of the Egyptian Front or the Golan Heights.

But whatever the outcome of the Kissinger peace mission, P.L.O. officials say that they will go on teaching their youth about Palestine so they will never forget it. Loudspeakers play songs that emphasise this theme with such titles as : 'I will live again when I die in my home land'.
