The deposed Head of State of the Khmer Republic, Prince Norodom Sihanouk, spent the 22nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in the company of the Chinese Premier, Chou-En-lai. Premier Chou En-lai stressed at a banquet the satisfaction of the People's Republic of China at the total of nearly 30 countries to have announced their recognition of the "Royal Government of National Union of Cambodia".

This year the usual grand celebrations were toned down considerably But the deposed head of the Khmer Republic Prince Norodom Sihanouk, spent a busy and enjoyable day with the Premier of the People's Republic, Chou En-lai. With Prince Sihanouk were other members of his government-in-exile. All enjoyed a warm welcome on the picturesque Kunming Lake.
Prince Sihanouk earlier sent a note to Chairman Mao Tse-Tung, Vice-Chairman Lin Piao and Premier Chou En-lai extending the warmest greetings on behalf of the Khmer people and expressing his militant solidarity and warmest congratulations.
Later, at a banquet, Premier Chou congratulated Prince Sihanouk that nearly 30 countries have announced recognition of his "Royal Government of the National Union of Cambodia". He also congratulated the Prince on the victories won by his people in the Khmer Republic over the United States forces. The leaders then watched a troupe of young dancers.
Premier Chou spent the evening at a banquet given by the Cultural Group.
More than 700 guests from countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and further afield attended the banquet with Premier Chou.
During the banquet the Premier and other Chinese leaders went among the guests, thanking them for their support and friendship.
There was a series of toasts during the banquet - several to the great victories won by the people of Vietnam, Laos and the Khmer Republic in their war against United States aggression. other toasts were to the great victories of the people of various countries in their struggles against imperialism and old and new colonialism.
