• Short Summary

East Germans are beginning to take advantage of the new official policy of "open frontiers to the East".

  • Description

East Germans are beginning to take advantage of the new official policy of "open frontiers to the East". Under relaxed travel regulations East Germans and Poles can now travel across the frontier without passports or visas, showing only their identity cards.

The same rules apply to travel with Czechoslovakia under an agreement reached by the three communist countries last year. It came into force on Saturday, January 1.

This coverage of people crossing from East Germany into Poland is from Polish television.
