  • Description

The first anniversary of the massacre at Tel Aviv's Lod Airport, in Israel, was marked quietly on Tuesday and Wednesday (29/30 May).

26 people died, and several more were wounded on May 30th last year, when a three-man Japanese suicide squad, operating on behalf of Palestinian guerrillas, suddenly produced machine guns, and started firing wildly in the crowded customs hall.

They were eventually shot down by security guards; two were killed, the third was captured, and is serving a life sentence in an Israeli jail.

During the 24-hour period of the anniversary of the massacre, no music was played over the airport loudspeakers, and airport flags were lowered to half mast. Many of the victims of the killers were Puerto Rican Christian pilgrims.
