Background: Continuing her Ethiopian programme, the Duchess of Gloucester visited the Princess Tsaihi Memorial Hospital at Addis Ababa, Nov. 16. She was met at the hospital entrance by Mrs. Sylvia Pankhurst and numbers of the staff.

After introduction, the Duchess started her tour of the hospital, visiting the wards, operating theatres and pepping at babies in incubators.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Gloucester was at the Britain military cemetery outside Addis Ababa. The Chief of Police, Colonel Wright, was there to meet him. The Duke laid a wreath at the war memorial.

Among the people introduced to him was a World War One veteran, Desta Birru, 64, who lost a leg while fighting with the King's African Rifles in Tanganyika. He wore a row of British medal ribbons pinned to his tattered British Army uniform.

The Duke then returned to Addis Ababa for a dinner party at the British Embassy.
