  • Description

Women from 70 countries have congregated at the international council meeting of the World Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) which began in Accra, Ghana, last Saturday (August 7).

Opening the two-week meeting, Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister William Ofori-Atta appealed for Christian churches throughout the world to issue an outright condemnation of racialism. He told the 450 delegates that pressure must be put on those who professed such an ideology.

Y.W.C.A. President Mrs Athena Athanassiou said the meeting would review the associations activities in the past year and also deal with the world refugee problem. She said participants would later tour a number of African countries including Uganda, Zambia, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
