TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 3: REPORTER: "The FLQ has been fairly quiet in recent months. what do you thinks is the significance of this kidnapping?

TETRAULT: Well, I think that it's the beginning of a new wave of terrorism and revolutionary actions by the movement. In line with its policies of attacking the Confederation and Federal Government on all levels.

REPORTER: Why do you think they've picked on a British diplomat to kidnap?

TETRAULT: Well, firstly I'm just giving a personal opinion here, but would think that one of the basic reasons would be because of Britain's traditional role as a colonial power in Canada. And, after all, we're going back to the Plains of Abraham when the British conquered Quebec and over since then the British have been the establishment in Quebec Another reason would probably be because the Canadian Government has been tightening security around the American diplomats and therefore they would have second thoughts about attacking the American consulate. REPORTER: To climb down gracefully?

    TETRAULT: Right.

A former member of the FLQ who has previously served four years in jail for separatist activities, said in Montreal on Tuesday that the considered that the British Diplomat had been chosen because of the United Kingdom's traditional role as a colonial power in Canada.

By late Wednesday night there is still no news of Mr Cross's where-about, but the FLQ was reported to have extended the deadline for the Federal Government to meet the ransom demands of half-a-million dollars in gold, the freeing of separatist members in prison, and their safe conduct to Cuba or Algeria.

Speaking to a reporter, the former FLQ member, Roger Tetrault, said:
