Background: King Savong Vatthana of Laos presided over celebrations to mark National Day in the Laotian capital of Vientiane on Friday (11 May).
The King, looking fit and well despite recent rumours of a severs illness, later viewed a military parade from a dais near the city's monument to its war dead.
Several soldiers received decorations from the King before the parade began.
It was the first National Day in Laos since the recent signing of a peace agreement with the Pro-Communist Pathet Lao.
At this year's parade, troops from branches of the Laotian Army marched past as transport aircraft from the country's Air Force flew overhead in the salute.
