Background: King Feisal of Saudi Arabia in Djakarta on Wednesday (10 June) for a three-day visit. President Suharto greeted the monarch as he stepped from the Saudi Airlines jet. Thousands of school children also welcomed the King.
King Feisal arrived in Djakarta from Kuala Lumpur after a three-day State visit to Malaysia. The King and his 58-member entourage were given a full ceremonial welcome with a 21-gun salute and a military guard of honour.
The King's visit - his second to Indonesia - is aimed at strengthening the already cordial relations between the two countries. Indonesia has the world's largest Moslem population.
Mr. Adam Malik, Indonesia's Foreign Minister, said the main subjects for official talks were the Arab-Israel conflict, economic and trade relations between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, and discussions on the recent Islamic Foreign Ministers' Conference in Jeddah.
Djakarta left no doubt in the King's mind as to his welcome. The two-mile (three kilo metre) route from the airport to the Presidential Palace was lined by thousands of children who waved both Indonesian and Saudi Arabian flags as the motorcade drove past.
