Background: At Parliament House in New Delhi on Thursday (7 December), India's President Giri met with visiting Singaporean Foreign Minister Raja Ratnam. The two men were to discuss cooperation between their two countries and matters of expanding trade and economic aid.
Mr. Ratnam is also believed to have brought up his country's stand on the continuing differences between India and Pakistan and his views on the state of the newly-formed country of Bangladesh.
Later in the afternoon, Mr. Ratnam was introduced to the Indian Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi. Officials said the Prime Minister and Mr. Ratnam talked on a number of issues, including Singapore's role in the expansion of Asia in terms of world-wide economy.
