  • Description

The fourth conference of the Cooperation Committee of Non-aligned Countries' Broadcasting Organisations opened in Algiers on Saturday (2 June). The Committee was founded in 1977 with the aim of coordinating broadcasting polices among the non-aligned countries.

SYNOPSIS: In Algiers' Palais des Nations, nineteen delegations from non-aligned countries met to thrash out a common policy vis-a-vis other international broadcasting organisations, and to decide on a common approach to the world administration conference on radio communications to be held in Geneva later this year.

Delegates at the conference called for the breaking-down of what they see as the broadcasting monopoly of industrialised countries. Similar conferences in the past months have pointed out repeatedly the difficulties the Geneva radio conference could face in reallocating new frequencies, because of developing countries' technical disadvantages compared with industrial nations.
