Background: The United States Navy is currently testing a new hydrofoil tornado boat that is reported to be capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots per hour.

The new ship, designed by the Boeing Aircraft Company, is 115-feet long, 31-feet wide and is powered by two gas turbine engines. Its exact speed is a military secret but the designers say it can travel much more than 40 knots an hour.

Hydrofoil craft skim over the water by riding on wing-like structures that remain under water below the ship. The new Navy ship is said to be an improvement on other models because it can operate in very rough seas.
