THE CEREMONY WAS ATTENDED BY THOUSANDS OF MUSLIMS FROM THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY INCLUDING MALAM IMMAM ABASS, THEIR SPIRITUAL LEADER.

    AMONG THE OTHER LEADING GUESTS WERE THE NIGERIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER AND THE AMBASSADORS FOR THE SUDAN AND SAUDI ARABIA. ALHAJI ENGLISH, CHAIRMAN OF THE MUSLIM EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, AND MR. M.K. APALOO. CHAIRMAN OF THE WATER AND SEWERAGE CORPORATION, WERE ALSO THERE.

    IN HIS ADDRESS, MR. YAKUBU SAID THE TIME WAS OVERDUE FOR THE NEW MOSQUE. HE ALSO OBSERVED THAT RELIGION WAS SUPERIOR TO POLITICS, AND THAT THE TWO OUGHT TO BE KEPT SEPARATE.

    A FUND WAS LAUNCHED AT THE CEREMONY TO PROVIDE MONEY FOR THE NEW BUILDING.
