Background: TWO NORTHERN IRELAND PROTESTANT LEADERS, THE REVEREND IAN PAISLEY AND MAJOR RONALD BUNTING, WERE AMONG DEFENDANTS WHO TODAY (MONDAY) WALKED OUT OF A COURTROOM IN ARMAGH, ULSTER.

THEY SAID THEY PROTESTED BECAUSE THE COURT FAILED TO AGREE ON A DATE FOR THE ADJOURNMENT OF A NUMBER OF SUMMONSES ALLEGING UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLY AT ARMAGH, ON NOVEMBER 30.

AS MR. PAISLEY LEFT THE COURT HE TOLD REPORTERS THAT HIS PARTY WOULD WRITE TO THE MAGISTRATES STATING THAT THEY DO NOT EXPECT JUSTICE.

ALL THE CASES EXCEPT ONE WERE ADJOURNED TO JANUARY 27.

PROSECUTING IN THE ABSENCE OF THE DEFENDANTS, MR. BARRY SHAW, Q.C., SAID THAT MR. PAISLEY HAD ORIGINALLY SUGGESTED A FORTNIGHT'S ADJOURNMENT AND THAT HE WOULD ACCEPT THAT DATE.
