    SV Earl Mountbatten speaks:-



    "You may perhaps imagine how honoured any man might feel to receive the freedom of the City of Edinburgh, or an honorary degree from Edinburgh University. But then both these distinctions should be conferred on one man, & this on the same day,surely constitutes a double event, calculated to turn the head of any man." SCU..."The Navy is proud of its time honoured connection with your historic City, which is typified by the Naval part of Sir Robert Lorimer's fine war memorial." (dubb scene in here) SCU ... "It is as a Naval Officer that I come here today, and in receiving the honours you are bestowing on a lifelong sailor, I would like to acknowledge the loyal and excellent service which it has been my pride and good fortune to receive from the Officers and men I have commanded, particularly since I returned from India, more than five years ago, to resume my life's profession. Service in the Royal Navy."



    SV Lord Provost Sir James Miller speaks:-



    "Our citizens are proud this day to add your name to their famous scroll."



    SCU Countess Mountbatten speaks:-



    "To receive the freedom of the City of Edinburgh is an honour which has stirred up deeply, for we well understand the place which this City holds in the Hearts of all Scots." (Dubb scene in here) SCU ..."Edinburgh is a capital City and a beautiful one, but it is something far greater. For generations it has been a citadel of spiritual & religious thought, a centre famed for its culture, its education, for its medicine, research & for the spirit of adventure and service of its people." SV ... "My Lord Provost I would myself like to join in this tribute to Scotland & would it be possible for me to put into words the appreciation which I feel to you & to the citizens of Edinburgh for the unique honour which you have done me to-day, an honour which I shall ever cherish with pride and with gratitude." (applause)
