  • Description

Senegal's Head of State, President Leopold Senghor, paid tribute to the country's top basketball teams at a special reception at the Presidential Palace in Dakar on Friday (24 October).

He congratulated the team members of ASFA, Africa's top men's club team and said they showed the courage and valour of Senegalese soldiers. The team, in fact, is drawn from armed forces.

He also greeted the women's tom team -- the "Lionnes" which represented Africa in the women's international competition in Colombia this year. President Senghor said the women had fought like lions themselves. He said their success was even more commendable because they came from an undeveloped country and faced many difficulties.

President Senghor promised the teams that the new stadium being built in Dakar would be ready for the African women's championships in December next year.
